Welcome to the 53rd Annual Pembroke Arts Festival of 2020!

Virtual Edition

The 53rd Annual Pembroke Arts Festival looks quite different in 2020, but the show will go on!  Because of health concerns and subsequent state regulations surrounding the pandemic the festival committee has decided to celebrate the arts virtually this year.  The Juried Art Exhibit is still the cornerstone of the event so we will continue the tradition of providing a venue for area artists to showcase their art and also to offer accepted pieces for sale.  We have signed on with Smarter Entry, which is a user-friendly website, where artists can enter their pieces and jurors can select artwork for exhibit and possible cash awards.  The categories will remain the same and though there are fewer awards there are several exciting prizes being offered!  Please refer to the Artists tab for details.

The committee recognizes that people have been dealing with many emotions throughout this perilous time, and so we’ve decided to add a one-time (we hope!) PANDEMIC ART AWARD, which is open to the artists’ interpretation.  We intend this as an outlet for processing this life-changing universal experience through artistic expression.

As always with the juried show only accepted entries will be displayed in an online gallery on our website.  (There will be a limit of 6 pieces by artists aged 16 or older, with a fee of $12.00 per piece.)  We hope to have a physical display of only the top award winners at a future date but that will depend upon circumstances due to Covid 19.  Therefore it won't be necessary to frame your artwork in order to enter.  If your work is selected to be exhibited as an award winner at a later date it will be up to you to choose if you would like to have it framed and included in a physical show.

We have also decided to have a separate Young Artists Exhibit as usual with some changes.  Area youth will be invited to enter up to two works online, for which they will be charged $2.00 per entry.  All Young Artists entries, from Pre-Kindergarten through graduated Seniors and Special Education young adults will be exhibited in an online gallery within the same grade categories as before.  A  gallery exhibit of top award winners may be displayed in the future. Guardians will be responsible for framing only those pieces that are identified for exhibit, if they choose to participate.

The Arts Festival committee has looked at the situation regarding Covid 19 protocols and has regretfully decided to forgo the other traditional components of the Arts Festival this year.  We’re sorry to say we have had to cancel scholarships for this year because they are funded by the Raffle.  We are very grateful to some very generous sponsors who are funding our art awards, but rather than being acknowledged in the program these sponsors are being featured on our website in conjunction with the Online Gallery.

We wish for everyone to stay safe but to also have something creative and diverting to look forward to.  We’ve had to reinvent ourselves in order to keep the Pembroke Arts Festival alive in our 53rd year, but perhaps we’ll be able to use some of the new tools we’re learning about in subsequent years.  The committee is excited to be able to offer a re-imagined celebration of the arts in Pembroke and beyond, and we are very much looking forward to seeing what everyone has been working on during this unprecedented pause in our lives. As always, stay safe and be well!
