Welcome to the 53rd Annual Pembroke Arts Festival of 2020!

     The 53rd Annual Pembroke Arts Festival will look a little different in 2020.  Because of health concerns and subsequent state regulations surrounding the pandemic the festival committee is working on alternative ways to celebrate the arts this year.  The Juried Art Exhibit is still the cornerstone of the event so we will continue the tradition of providing a venue for area artists to showcase their art and also to offer accepted pieces for sale.  We have signed on with Smarter Entry, which is a user-friendly website, where artists can enter their pieces and jurors can select artwork for exhibit and possible cash awards.  The categories will remain the same but there may be fewer awards depending on our sponsors’ participation.  The committee recognizes that people have been dealing with many emotions throughout this perilous time, and so we’ve decided to add an award for Pandemic Art, which is open to the artists’ interpretation.  We hope it will be an outlet for processing this life-changing universal experience through artistic expression.  All accepted entries will be displayed in an online gallery on our website.  It’s most likely, because of space constraints, that only the top award winners will be physically displayed in the Pembroke Library once it reopens and the Meeting Room becomes available.  Therefore it’s necessary to frame your artwork only if it is selected to be exhibited.


     We have also decided to have a separate Young Artists Exhibit as usual with some changes.  Area youth will be invited to enter up to two works online, for which they will be charged $2.00 per entry.  All Young Artists entries, from Pre-Kindergarten through graduated Seniors and Special Education young adults will be exhibited in an online gallery within the same grade categories as before.  A  gallery exhibit of top award winners will be displayed in the library the month following the juried show.  Guardians will be responsible for framing only those pieces that are identified for exhibit.


     The Arts Festival committee will look at the situation regarding Covid 19 protocols in early July and then make decisions regarding the other traditional components of the Arts Festival. We’re sorry to say we have had to cancel scholarships for this year because they are funded by the Raffle.  We will still be relying on sponsors to fund our art awards but most likely rather than being acknowledged in the program they will be featured on our website in conjunction with the Online Gallery.


     We wish for everyone to stay safe but to also have something creative and diverting to look forward to.  We’ve had to reinvent ourselves in order to keep the Pembroke Arts Festival alive in our 53rd year, but perhaps we’ll be able to use some of the new tools we’re learning about in subsequent years.  The committee is excited to be able to offer a re-imagined celebration of the arts in Pembroke and beyond, and we are very much looking forward to seeing what everyone has been working on during this unprecedented pause in our lives.
